It is where the action is for sure these days! Plus of course downtown residents get parking at their lofts for around $25 a month in the central business district and usually free of charge in apartments close to downtown. The Midtown parking deck is offering free 2-hour parking during the roadway construction period! Definitely move downtown. You never have to walk more than a couple blocks from any public parking facility and just walking around on my daily walks downtown I see lots of open and readily available spaces in these lots and decks. Plenty of parking everywhere downtown ( ). In fact the road work is barely an issue as only one block is being worked at at a time on Main Street so it is like a 1 minute delay to get around it. There are some growing pains that come from a rapidly revitalizing and growing downtown, but when all the road work is done in a couple years it will look amazing down here.
#Gish flats movie
I saw Jon Heder and Efren Ramirez from Napoleon Dynamite do a Q&A there a couple weeks ago, seeing the Best of the Eagles in November, and have been to see the ballet, and NCAA championship which was free btw ( ) and on a huge movie theater sized screen!!! More info: Plus you would be within walking distance of the beautifully restored historic Academy Center of the Arts theater for all kinds of great events.
#Gish flats for free
Would highly recommend you check out Rose Thursday for free music and a good way to meet new people. There is also a lot of great music and social events happening at the Glass House these days since it was bought and upgraded by Water Dog. Mama Crocketts donuts are the best donuts anywhere and right across from Gish Flats if you end up moving there (as well as my most favorite restaurant in Lynchburg Grey's). A new ramen and sushi place just opened a month ago on Main is fantastic and we also have a great vegetarian restaurant Urbavore on Church Street. A massive new brewery is opening in March of 2020 at 13th and Court Streets, a new pour your own beer taproom at 12th and Church Streets, and new rooftop bar and lounge on the Bluffwalk next to El Jefe). River Lofts West and River Lofts North (113 units between the two buildings): Īll of these places were built since 2013 and include all the latest amenities (glass top stoves, stainless steel appliances, washer and dryer, workout gym, microwave, dishwasher, resident parking, and trash pickup). Midpoint Apartments (48 residential units): Just WOW): Īll the other main downtown lofts and apartments that I would recommend that offer parking are as follows: These just opened a couple of months ago, offer on-site residential parking, and incredible spacious apartments for a competitive price (scroll to the bottom for photos.

If you are interested in these please reach out to Stephanie Cox at 43.Īnother good place of note are the Virginia Laundry Lofts at 712 12th Street (29 residential units). Daniels Hill where it is located is revitalizing fast with lots of homes being bought up and flipped. It is a stones throw 5 minute walk from downtown. The latest apartments under construction right now are 48 new loft apartments at 41 Cabell Street which will include free resident parking and direct access to the Point of Honor multiuse trail. Some like Gish Flats even offer free bikes for residents! In other places I have lived the average for a downtown 1-bedroom is around $1,150 AT LEAST (try $1,400+ for Asheville). Here you can get a nice one bedroom or studio loft for around $750-800 a month including amenities (internet, cable, workout gym, trash, bike storage areas, recycling, and water all included). Here is a map of all the development happening just to put it into perspective:Īnd a development thread of all the activity (up to six pages now):Īnd for downtown living, it is actually VERY reasonably priced compared to every other metro I have lived in (Savannah, Asheville, Charlotte, and Vegas). Dozens of new restaurants, bars, and cafes have been added with more coming all the time (last weekend alone three new businesses opened). About $250 million in total development since 2012. Some 862 new lofts, apartments, and condos have been added to downtown since 2012 with more underway right now and guess what, occupancy rates are around 95% which speaks to the popularity of downtown these days. I have lived at McGregor Lofts, River Lofts North, and now own a riverfront condo across from Water Dog above the Glass House. Sorry I am late to the conversation! Don't listen to the haters, downtown is thriving and more alive than at any time in the seven years I have lived downtown since moving here for work.
